It is the service to book when you want a complete colour transformation rather than a subtle lift, and it remains one of the requests we hear at our Crawley salon week in, week out.

The half head question comes up at nearly every consultation, so here is the honest comparison.

A pattern that works: many clients book a full head two or three times a year, with half heads in between. You get an even base, then keep it topped up where it shows.
What happens at your appointment
Your stylist starts with a consultation, looking at your natural base, your previous colour and your inspiration photos. Foils are then woven in fine sections through the whole head, which is the part that takes the time.
Once the foils have developed, your hair is rinsed and toned. The toner is what refines the lightened hair into the final shade, whether that is cool beige, soft gold or bright platinum. You leave with a cut or blow-dry to finish the look.
Set aside around three hours for the full appointment. It is not a quick visit, but it is a proper transformation.
Keeping your highlights bright
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo to slow fade
- Add a purple shampoo once a week to hold off brassiness
- Book a toner or gloss around the six week mark
- Always use heat protection before styling
Frequently asked questions
How long does a full head of highlights take?
Around two and a half to three hours, including toning and finishing. Very long or very thick hair can take longer, so mention it when you book and we will allow the right amount of time.
How often should you get a full head of highlights?
Every eight to twelve weeks suits many people. If your hair grows quickly or you like a very uniform blonde, lean towards eight. Alternating with half heads stretches the gap further.
Will a full head of highlights damage my hair?
Lightening always asks something of your hair, but careful sectioning, the right developer strength and a bond-building treatment keep damage to a minimum. Tell your stylist about any previous colour so they can plan the safest route.
Can I go from dark hair to blonde in one appointment?
Usually not in a single visit. Dark bases need gradual lightening to keep hair healthy, so your stylist may plan the change over two or three appointments. You will see a real difference after the first one.
